2013 Fort4Fitness Pace Team Volunteers The Fort Wayne Running Club is proud to announce the formation of Pace Groups for the 2013 Fort4Fitness Half-Marathon! We have requested and found several members of our club who are enthusiastic runners that want to help others reach their personal goals, while at the same time making your experience a truly memorable one! REMEMBER: The Pace Groups are FREE to join, do not require that you sign up prior to the race and are part of the Half-Marathon only. You can meet some of the Pace Team Volunteers at the Fort4Fitness Festival Expo on Friday, September 27th at Parkview Field! 1:45 Pace Group (8:00/mile) Jonathon Gottschalk Marathon PR: 3:35 Number of Marathons: 3 Half-Marathon PR: 1:26 Number of Half-Marathons: 8 Occupation: Software Engineer Who do you enjoy training with? Our local underground training group. Why do you run? A sense of accomplishment, relaxation and a healthy lifestyle. Why are you pacing? I want to help other local area runners reach their personal goals, much like others I run with have helped me reach mine. Favorite Running Experience: The series of signs I read during the Champaign Illinois Marathon, which included, but was not limited to: "Worst Parade Ever", "Chuck Norris can divide by Zero, but has never ran a Marathon", "Go Faster or Stop for a Beer" (yes they had beer), and my favorite "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger" immediately followed by another sign that read "Prepare to Die". Why should someone pace with you? I love talking and encouraging others before, during and after a race. I love helping others reach their goals Favorite Running Experience: Qualifying for Boston in 2012 and completing my first 100 mile race Why should someone pace with you? To get that extra push at mile 12 to get them to the finish!!! 1:50 Pace Group (8:23/mile) Todd Findley Marathon PR: 3:29 Number of marathons: 16 (#17 in a month) Half marathon PR: 1:33 Number of half marathons: 12 (after Parlor City) Occupation: Stay-at-home Dad (Three boys ages 11, 10, 7) Who do you enjoy training with? My iPod. As a stay-at-home dad, I usually run after I drop the kids off at school while most people are at work. Why do you run? Initially to lose weight. Now, I am focused on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and setting a good example for my boys. Why are you pacing? To help others achieve their running goals. I am looking forward to seeing the members of our pace group cross home plate and the looks on their faces when they have achieved their goal! Favorite Running Experience: Helping a high school friend train and complete his first marathon last May at the Colfax Marathon in Denver. Not sure it gets much better running in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains. Why should someone pace with you? We are going to have a great time running a great event! I run because I love it. I have always enjoyed running, it doesn't matter if it is fast or slow I still enjoy it. Why are you pacing? I am pacing because I enjoyed my pace group at the Columbus marathon which got me my goal to qualify for Boston. I don't think I could have done it without the encouragement of my pace team leader. I want to see if I can help someone else to meet their goal as I met mine. Favorite Running Experience: My favorite run experience is running trail ultramarathons with friends. Enjoying the scenery and competing together with friends to achieve the goal of finishing. Why should someone pace with you? They should pace with me because I run all the time and I can keep an even pace through the whole race and I like to talk when running so I can entertain to get the runners through the miles. 2:00 Pace Group (9:09/mile) Erin Brady Marathon PR: 3:35 Marathons: 11, 2 50ks and 1 50 miler Half-Marathon PR: 1:39 Half-Marathons: 14 Occupation: Teacher Who do you enjoy training with? I enjoy training with others who challenge me. Sometimes it takes the friendship of other runners to get me through a tough run. I also enjoy the conversations that make the miles seem easy. Why do you run? I run because I like the tranquility and quiet of a run after a long day. I run to enjoy the seasons and the city. Why are you pacing? I am pacing to help others meet their goals. Favorite Running Experience: This spring I ran my first 50 mile trail run at Chain of Lakes. The conditions were challenging, but the camaraderie and support of the race directors and participants made the race memorable. Why should someone pace with you? Gail and I will run consistent splits. We are pacing to support and encourage all the runners on the course. Why are you pacing? To give back to our wonderful running community. Favorite Running Experience: Grand daughter Claire and my son-in-law greeting me at the finish of the Flying Pig Half Marathon this year Why should someone pace with you? My friends, TRRC team and occasionally my boyfriend :-) Why do you run? I love it! Healthy stress reliever and to stay in shape. Why are you pacing? I love running the F4F half, but I don't want to race it right before my marathon in Detroit. Favorite Running Experience: Fort 4 Fitness 2009, which was my first race and got me started. 2012 Chicago Marathon, the best race I have ran so far with both time and smoothness. Why should someone pace with you? Um, to accomplish their goal of running the Fort 4 Fitness in 2:10! I like meeting new people and getting to know them while running. Why do you run? I run for a healthy life. I also can't imagine a life without it. Why are you pacing? To meet new people and help others achieve their running goals. Favorite Running Experience: MS Run the US came through Fort Wayne, and I got to run from Warsaw to Columbia City with their relay runner. It was inspiring and humbling. Why should someone pace with you? Sharon and I are very encouraging and a lot of fun out on the road! I enjoy training with all different groups of people. I am a "social runner." The more the merrier! Why do you run? I run for my health and for my sanity. I never regret going out for a run! Why are you pacing? I am pacing because I know how much it meant to me when others runners helped me achieve a goal. I also enjoy the camaraderie of groups of people "sharing the pain." Favorite Running Experience? My favorite run was my 2010 Boston Marathon. Why should someone pace with you? Someone should pace with me because I am committed to helping others enjoy running as much as I do. I have also been told that running with me is never dull! Favorite Running Experience: So many to choose from but probably when Mindy and I raised money for Leukemia and lymphoma and ran the Seattle Washington Marathon! It was great to combine fundraising with running which I love to help others in need! Friends, neighbors, co-workers, relatives, acquaintances, new runners, experienced runners, ...... Why do you run? To get outdoors, to maintain physical fitness, to maintain mental health and perspective, to see the city, to see the country side, to socialize, to sweat, to have fun, and many other reasons. Why are you pacing? To participate in the community and encourage other runners. I had a great time helping other runners get to the finish line as a Pace Team Leader last year. Favorite Running Experience: Several: qualifying for & running the Boston marathon; the HUFF; NYC marathon; the Tecumseh Trail marathon; trail running in the Smoky mountains, the Grand Canyon, and in the Sangre de Cristo mountains near Santa Fe New Mexico; and anytime running with my daughters. Why should someone pace with you? To make it to the finish of the Fort4Fitness in 2:30. Also, I was a Pace Team Leader last year, making it positive for all who ran with us, and we delivered on time. I run to get in shape and get a better view of the world Favorite Running Experience: My favorite running experience is the calm I find in the effort and the surroundings(watching the sun rise onto Lombard street in San Francisco,hearing the noon church bells echo through Shenley park in Pittsburgh,being near Lake Michigan in Chicago,etc.) Why should someone pace with you? folks should pace with me if they're hoping to do a half in 2:30and especially if they want to have fun doing it!
