FWRC News May 2020

Dear FWRC members,

We have been closely following our community’s developments related to the Covid-19, and we would like to let you know what the immediate future looks like for the club.

We greatly value your health and safety and guidelines from the governor’s office has informed our decision-making processes. With that in mind, here’s a few items of note:

JP Jones

We will have to cancel this year’s event. It will not be rescheduled and there will not be a virtual option.

Runners on Parade

With the cancelation of the Three Rivers Festival, there’s simply no way for us to do this event. However, by this date, we should be able to stage a smaller scale event in full compliance with the governor’s guidelines. This special event, which we’re calling “Runners In The Park” will take place at Franke Park on the morning of July 11. There is a 230 runner limit and you must be pre-registered to participate. Cost is $14 for non-members, and $12 for members. More information is available on the registration page:

Season-End Awards (Ironrunner, Friendship Series, Club Series)

Given that many races have already been cancelled or postponed, we are going to suspend these awards for 2020. We look forward to being back in business for 2021.

Points Series

The points series will continue for 2020 in a modified form. Points will still be earned for races held on their regularly scheduled dates. There is no change to how points are awarded. No points will be earned for races that were postponed/rescheduled or staged virtually.

There will be no volunteer requirement in 2020, but you can still earn up to 100 volunteer points (using the same guidelines already in place).

At the annual banquet, we will again recognize the top three members in each age/gender category.

You can check the club website’s race calendar for news regarding rescheduled dates for points races. While you will not earn points for these events, and no one is required to participate to earn a season-end award, we will keep you appraised of what is happening in our running community. If you’re interested, available and comfortable to participate in these events, please do so.

Annual Banquet

Planning continues for our next banquet, and it’s still too early to announce much more than this: we have found our guest speaker. Jeff Galloway is an Olympic athlete, businessman, author, coach … and he will be guest speaker! To learn a little more about him, you can visit http://www.jeffgalloway.com.

That’s all for now. If you have any questions, you can use this link: https://www.fortwaynerunningclub.org/contact/contact-the-club or email president@fwtc.org.
