Are you solo or do you have a favorite group of running buddies?  I have a great group of running buddies but they are much faster me! So sometimes I run with them but I also run alone a lot. I like to do both.
Most Memorable Running Experience?  I have a few but the 2 that are most significant to me are when I ran my first full 5k in 2012. I HATED running all of my life and would never ever do it. I'd always find ways to get out of it. But in 2011 I lost 100+ pounds with diet and walking. Running became a natural progression as I grew stronger and I ran a full 5K in May 2012. The second one would be looking at where I am now. I've had several medical challenges over the last few years but decided 2017 was going to be my comeback year. So once again I ran a full 5K at Runner's on Parade and then I aimed high and completed my first half marathon at Fort for Fitness. I never imagined I would be able to do a half marathon.
Why do you volunteer with the Running Club?  I love the running community in Fort Wayne. I am not originally from Fort Wayne though I have now lived here almost 10 years. Since becoming involved with the running club races in 2016 I have met incredible people that I now call friends. I think our community of runners are some of the most accepting, encouraging and amazing people I have ever met. I am a slow runner, probably a back of the packer, but that has never mattered to our running community. I am part of them. So, I want to continue to give back to the group that welcomed me and made me realize I really am a runner!!
What does running mean to you?  I love the challenge it gives me. As I mentioned with my weight loss, I was a walker and never thought I would become a runner. One day on the treadmill I just decided to see if I could run for one minute. I continued to challenge myself and before I knew it one minute became one mile and then there was no stopping me. I love being able to prove to myself that I can do something I never thought I would be able to do. That's what running does for me.

Are you solo or do you have a favorite group of running buddies?  I usually run solo, but when I do run with someone it is usually my wife.
Most Memorable Running Experience?  Every time I achieve something new, it is a new memorable experience. My first 10k, my first half, my first marathon, my first triathlon... The latest is the first time I completed a half with a sub 2 hour time.
Why do you volunteer with the Running Club?  I discovered that I am a very goal orientated person. The points series races gives me goals through the whole year to keep me working. I always know what races are coming up and what I need to be training for. This keeps me healthy and happy!
What does running mean to you?  I started as a way to lose weight and get my blood pressure down to a safe level. But I discovered that I also do it to challenge myself. I was never athletic so I find it amazing to see the things that my body can do. I also find that it is my stress relief. My running is my time. It is a chance for me to put everything else on hold and just talk to myself, nature, God, whomever I need it.

First Year and total number of years served on board:  I joined the board mid-way through the year in 2017. I've just been elected to a 2 year term and I look forward to serving.
Are you solo or do you have a favorite group of running buddies?  I enjoy the solo run and runs with friends...depends on my mood and goals. I run with friends a lot so sometimes I need to break those ties so I can prepare for race time when I'm out there all alone.
Most Memorable Running Experience?  Finishing my most challenging race to date...the IT100, 50 miler. It was a cold, rainy day. I was a newbie, probably not trained well enough, and there was mud for days. I really had to dig deep down for that finish and it felt great!
Why do you volunteer with the Running Club?  The local running community has given me so much in ways of friendships, support, community, and health...this is the least that I can do to give back. It's my goal to keep the club relevant and a treasure to it's members.
What does running mean to you?  There are way too many reasons to count! Here are a few: to stay healthy, to get lost for awhile, sense of accomplishment, community support, strengthening friendships, food, and beer.

Are you solo or do you have a favorite group of running buddies?  I often run solo, but enjoy running with friends as schedules permit. When running in a group, I train with Fort Wayne's Smallest Winner contestants, Fort4Fitness training groups, Tuesday Lindenwood/O's Wild Bunch and the IGNITE Ultra team.
Most Memorable Running Experience?  I have many memorable moments. Perhaps my most rewarding running accomplishment was finishing my first half marathon (Fort4Fitness 2013). It was the culmination of a lot of hard work as a contestant in Fort Wayne's Smallest Winner.
Why do you volunteer with the Running Club?  I was a contestant in Fort Wayne's Smallest Winner (2013) and lost 88 lbs in 27 weeks. This free program is staffed by many volunteers who make it all work. After completing the FWSW training, I volunteer to return the investment made in me. Without the help of so many volunteers, I would not have adapted a healthy, active lifestyle.
What does running mean to you?  Running is a great way to challenge myself. I like attempting to do hard things. Sometimes I win. Sometimes I don't. Either way, I learn a lot about myself in the process.
