2013 Ironrunner Award Recipients
The Fort Wayne Running Club awards a special designation to its members each year who make the commitment and complete each of our designated Points Series races. These individuals do not necessarily win each race, but they take part in all fifteen of them and their continued involvement in the local running community is recognized by this award. The winners of the 2013 Ironrunner Awards are presented below with brief information about each one! You might see them at a race soon!
Andria Eguia
Which Points Race did you enjoy the most and why? The W.O.O.F. 16 miler trail run. I definitely would not have run that race had it not been a Points Race. I hadn’t run that distance before, but I’d set my sights on Iron Woman status. Running with my good pal, Pat Beuchel, through the colorful November trails, with donut & coffee pit stops after each loop, it was one of my most memorable runs! And, it was THE experience that transformed me into a distance runner.
Which Points Race was the hardest for you and why? Umm, every single one of them. Before joining the FWTC and Run Clubbers last year, I generally preferred to run for comfort (& a beer). However, the energy and drive of the other runners challenged me to push myself more and more. Thus, having to run each race more seriously “interfered” with my old ways. The comfort part, that is. Now everyone knows I run for beer AND bling. ;)
Did you run any non-points races this year, and if so which ones? Indy Mini, Fort4Fitness, and getting ready to rock the LA Marathon in 2014!
Who is your favorite person or group to go for a run with? The Run Clubbers, of course! We are family! Even now when I am training for my first marathon in the toughest winter weather conditions, Run Clubbers have been with me every step of the way LITERALLY. In all my double digit runs, they have come out in large number to run this leg or that, and have ensured I am never alone. THANK YOU, DEAR FRIENDS! As of this writing, I have one more 22 miler to go. Who’s in?!
What do you enjoy most about distance running? The journey of realizing my mental and physical capabilities; the peace & beauty of a long scenic run (especially in this winter wonderland); and the connections I make with other runners along the way.
