FWRC Group Run/Walk at Open Streets Fort Wayne

August 26, 2021

Open Streets Fort Wayne is a fun, family-friendly day that builds community and offers fitness and recreational opportunities FREE to residents. On August 29, 2021, Fort Wayne will have its fourth Open Streets event anchored by Calhoun Street. The last three Open Streets events were extremely successful and this year's event promises to be even better, with plenty of new activities for all ages and abilities.

The event opens up more than two miles of roadway to walking, biking, rollerblading and numerous activities. The streets will be car free, like a huge block party, and will allow residents to enjoy and see the community like never before. Bring your bike this year and enter the bike parade. There will be a bike decorating station too, if you don’t want to decorate your bike at home.

This year’s Open Streets Fort Wayne directly connects the neighborhoods of West Central, East Central, LaRez, Hoagland Masterson and Historic Williams Woodland with the Central Business District on Calhoun Street. The route is 20 blocks stretching from Superior Street to Pontiac Street.

While Open Streets encourages active transportation such as walking and cycling, it also encourages CONNECTION with the central business district and with multiple neighborhoods. The complimentary activities will feature giant board games like jenga, chess and checkers.
