Meet & Greet with Jeff Galloway
Meet Jeff Galloway, 1972 US Olympian in the 10,000 meters! Galloway is stopping by the store to meet with Fort Wayne Runners to talk about his book, "Galloway's Book on Running" before heading off to Fort Wayne running Club 43rd Annual Banquet.
Galloway is a great runner for anyone to hear from- even young high school runners! Galloway says he did not show potential as a national class athlete at young age as he did not qualify to the Georgia State High School Championship until his senior year. After high school he committed to run for Wesleyan University (CT), which did not offer athletic scholarships. During his time at Wesleyan, he trained with Olympic gold medalist, Frank Shorter and joined by Amby Burfoot, 1968 Boston Marathon winner.
It took Galloway to set a 2 minute personal record in the 10,000 meters to qualify for the Olympic Trials. During the trials, he went from last place to taking silver and unexpectedly qualifying for the 1972 Olympic Games.
